NextGate Teams with Datavant to Co-Host Pandemic Response Hackathon

Hackathon brings together public health professionals and the technology community to contribute to the world’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic

PASADENA, Calif., March 25, 2020 ‑ NextGate, the global leader in healthcare enterprise identification, has partnered with Datavant, the leader in helping healthcare organizations safely link their data to improve medical research and patient care, to co-host the Pandemic Response Hackathon on March 27, 2020.

The virtual hackathon brings together technologists such as engineers, software developers, data scientists and UX designers, and public health professionals including clinicians, healthcare workers and policy experts, to contribute to the world’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic. As needs on global, national, and local levels rise, there is an opportunity for technology to support public health information sharing, keep healthcare workers safe, better understand the epidemiology and science of the disease, and address the societal impacts of a socially-distanced world.

The hackathon, which is divided into various project tracks, will kickoff the weekend of March 27-29 with the goal of getting solutions implemented and in the hands of patients, providers, and public health officials as quickly as possible.

NextGate’s Chief Technology Officer Daniel Cidon, whose team is focused on building a nationwide Coronavirus case registry, said this a time for the tech community to adapt, pool resources, and lead.

“Collaboration, along with secure data sharing, is essential to combating this pandemic,”he said. “Technology plays a big role in addressing the needs of COVID-19 patients and their care teams and will require public-private cooperation from healthcare professionals, government, private citizens, vendors and scientists to ensure they have the finest tools at their disposal to speed up detection and identify trends and treatments.”

The hackaton currently has over 400 participates, and is also being supported by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) and American Public Health Association (APHA).
